Fake dating in Hollywood, what could go wrong?

This book ended up being not what I was expecting and definitely not in a bad way. I ended up really enjoying the book and devoured it in one sitting. Yeah, it sucks you in. I mean fake dating, age gap and “let’s bang it out of our system” are supreme.

I was expecting something more on the lines of You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria or Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade. It’s a much heavier novel than that.

💕LOVES:

Communication– the communication that both characters had was phenomenal. Sure there were some moments when they didn’t talk things through as much as they should have, but I understood the why behind those moments.

Grey, Ethan, and Nora– I loved these characters. Each one felt like they were fully developed and utterly flawed in the best way. To be honest, Nora ended up stealing the show for me with her relationship with Ethan and Grey even though she was the ex-wife. Grey was such an interesting character too! She’d been in shows and worked her whole life which created a very interesting dynamic. Ethan was such a sad man. You seriously cannot hope but for the best for him the entire book.

Plot– This plot does not go the way you think it will. I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting myself into with this book. Spoiler alert, I did not. I’m not going to ruin any part of this novel, but just be aware it’s not going to go how you think it is. And honestly, that’s for the better. The ending is absolute perfection because of it.

Long Story Short
Do I recommend this book? YES! It was amazing and I really enjoyed the writing. Everything flowed so well. There’s just so much to unpack and also the steamy scenes were totally worth it. I really, really hope this is just the beginning of Ava Wilder’s writing career because I so want more books from her!

Sadie Green is really out here living all of our dreams. Brownstone with cheap rent, best friends that are incredibly supportive, and a new roomie that is loaded, nerdy, and hot.

I’ve been meaning to pick this one up for a while and I’ve seen nothing but good reviews and I get it now.

Sadie doesn’t get her promotion says some unprofessional, albeit truthful things that get her fired. Not going to lie it was as the point that I fell in love with Sadie. Like I want her as my best friend.

Ok moving on. This book covers topics like sudden death of parents, deep set grief, and childhood trauma but it does it in such careful ways. And the friendships in this book are second to none.

And the tension!!! It was basically historical romance level tension, you know ~hand graze~ for a decent chunk of the book. So it is a slow burn but the payoff👌! And they were ROOMMATES!

Sadie and Jack’s character developments were fabulous and I loved watching Sadie chase after her dreams. Also Jack is so freaking sweet and they talk through problems—mostly!

Sure I wish there had been a bit more conversation between Jack and Sadie at the end and their relationship fleshed out a bit more, but the gooey feeling I got from the rest of the book? Just excellent.

Highly recommend this book!! I cannot wait to read Ballard’s future novels!

🖋The Mad Girls of New York by Maya Rodale: 4⭐️~ very interesting fictional biopic of Nellie Bly.

🛶Every Summer After by Carley Fortune: 4.5⭐️~ the pining and longing of this dual time line romance is superb!!!

🎾The Heiress Hunt by Joanna Shupe: 4⭐️~ childhood best friends to estranged to lovers?? Had a few issues with the plot but overall can’t go wrong with a Shupe romance!!

🥘The Lady Gets Lucky by Joanna Shupe: 4.5⭐️~ rake teaching a wallflower how to seduce and becomes seduced, what’s not to love? Alice and Kit are perfect!!!

🏙The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe: 4.5⭐️~ dirty talking in historicals>>>, also role play and we’re attracted to each other but don’t like each other with many daddy issues? Love!!!

📜Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake by Sarah MacLean: 4.5⭐️~ once again “teaching” happens and there’s a list for Calpurina to find her happiness and it’s 🥰!!

Did I skip reading the first book because I didn’t realize this was a series? Yes. Whoops.

Did I feel like I was missing things? A little? But it was totally fine once I got more into the book and established. I DEFINITELY want to go back and read the first one.

Ok but this book was so good!! I mean Kate Bateman is never going to lead me astray, but FRIENEMIES WITH BENEFITS?!?!?

Ugh. That just hits the spot. Long time family rivals and they’ve always sorta been into each other and she has a secret and THERES TEACHING MOMENTS AND SCANDAL! And bears! And the ever important “it’s only ever been you” moment😭😭😭.

Am I just spewing out nonsense for this review? Yes. But it seriously SO good and my heart!!

Even from the first line, “Lady Carys Davies dressed to meet her blackmailer in the same way she dressed for every other social occasion: scandalously” you know it’s going to be amazing.

Have you read A Reckless Match (the first in the series)? How much of a need is it? Because based on this one… yeah…
