This book was so good. I consumed it in one day--in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down.

The dual timelines, the weird moments of teen years together with the regret of adulthood. So a second chance romance from childhood with a touch of “it’s always been you” to it: Perfection.

4.5⭐️ | Contemporary Romance | Explicit

CW: Cancer, death of parents (both off screen, one more involved than other), heart attack, cancer, anxiety, panic attack (on page).

Percy, Sam, and Charlie were such real, complex characters that I loved going on the journey with. When you start with characters from the age of 12 to 30 there’s a lot of history that you get to venture through.

The plot was phenomenal. I’m a sucker for those “we were close, until we weren’t and now I have to see them again oh no” books and this was it. ALL THE ANGST! And I truly loved how Fortune didn’t make everything alright with the plot.

There was the fallout, which did have major implications for both Sam and Percy and everyone in their lives. It didn’t get fixed and there were going to be some lifelong regrets from it and that’s what made it perfect.

I needed more of the NOW. I wanted more conversation between Sam and Percy, exploring who they were now and how they had changed. There were some unnecessary side plots in the now that just clunked things up and didn’t give me the emotional-character driven plot of the now.

I definitely think that this will be a book that will be really well received by people who aren’t romance readers (romance folks will love it too). It’s a lot and Fortune does a fantastic job juggling it all.

I do highly recommend it for both romance and non-romance (lit-fic) readers alike. It was a great read.

I think if you like Emily Henry's writing you'll adore this novel. It's perfect for summer.

I love a Joanna Shupe novel. The Gilded Age is one of my favorite periods in history because so much is changing and happening and Shupe is the QUEEN of this era romances.

The Heiress Hunt (synopsis 2 slide): 4⭐️

I liked The Heiress Hunt, but it isn’t my favorite of her novels. It’s a childhood friends to estranged to lovers book.

You can appreciate the chemistry and tension in it. The discussions around tennis were fascinating. I loved that Maddie was a tennis star!!

I just wanted more communication from the couple. I know was the big plot device in this book but honestly I got tired of Harrison keeping EVERYTHING to himself. I did enjoy the book though! And highly recommend!!

The Lady Gets Lucky: 5⭐️

I think Frank Tripp is still my favorite Shupe hero, but Kit Ward comes close. This is a TEACHING book😩. I love when the heroine is like I don’t want to be a wallflower, please teach and the rakish hero says sure what the worst that can happen. AND THEY FALL IN LOVE💕💕.

But honestly Kit and Alice were amazing characters. I loved their depth and growth. You can’t read this book and not feel for them. And the tension🥵. So freaking good.

I do wish it would have been a bit *more* with all the comments around Kit’s ahem, preferences. But you can’t win it all. Oh did I mention she’s a cook?

I cannot wait for Preston’s book and I am so excited to see how Lockwood is yet screwed over there. That poor Duke.

I DO recommend reading them in order as they very much overlap! Easily devoured these books in 2 days🫣.

The way this book affected my heart. So good and so under appreciated. If you haven’t read anything by Roni Loren you’re sorely missing out.

5⭐️ | Contemporary Romance | Explicit

CW (there’s a lot): Robbery (at gun point), divorce, dog being shot (lives & ends up happy!), school shooting—in the past but discussed frequently, alcoholism, child abuse, suicidal statements, PTSD, anxiety.

Whew, this book has a lot in it content wise, but Loren can craft such a phenomenal story and is so carefully done.

And the plot! She’s a divorce lawyer and he is the chef/instructor of an after school program. She helped his ex win most everything from him! Like does that not set up a great book?!?

Between the character development, all of the plots and subplots weaving together, and then the steam this book is easily a 5⭐️ read for me.

While it is the second in the series I do think you can read it as a standalone. You’ll get a bit more out of it if you’ve read the first one but it’s not a necessity.

I cannot wait to finish the series. Loren is such a phenomenal writer. Such an easy auto buy.

4⭐️ | Historical Fiction

I really liked this book! In the past few years I’ve mostly read just romance novels (bc you know life), but I was really excited when Berkley sent me the eARC of this book!

It’s a fictional biopic of Nellie Bly, a leader in investigative journalism as a woman. While she was real, this book takes some of the facts and then some fiction to create a really interesting tale. I mean the whole plot of agreeing to go to the asylum is a lot.

I love mystery novels and there was just the right amount of investigation, history, and excellent writing for me to enjoy this novel. The hints of romance even made me happy😉.

If you need a novel about a woman taking on the world and breaking glass ceilings with a dash of investigation all told in the Gilded Age, here’s your book.

My only issues were it dragged a little in places (not a huge problem, but rather the other parts of the book made it seem worse than it was) and some of the side characters could have used a bit more to them.

Overall I totally recommend this book! I really enjoyed reading it and definitely will be checking out Rodale’s other books (which ARE romances😉😉)

Look, I don’t know how to fully express my love for this book. Penelope and Jake are everything.

I love the depth and building of the characters. The own voice PCOS and chronic pain rep that Megan has so tenderly handled.

The BASEBALL!! It’s not an in-baseball book rather baseball adjacent book, but it’s there and it makes my heart so happy.

The cooking and dates and their work is just so 🥺🥰.

Basically the whole thing can be summarized into: How Can You Not Be Romantic About Baseball?? Because this book would say there’s no other way. (Hence that photo).⚾️⚾️

The Curveball is basically catnip for me with the sweet hero, determined heroine, BASEBALL, character arcs, and BASEBALL.

Thank you so so much Megan for the ARC and letting me enjoy your babies because it was ahhhhhh!!!!! And congrats on your debut😘.

How have I not read Lisa Kleypas before this year?

Seriously thank you so much @mamadaughterbookclub for introducing me to her books and directing me through how to read them (even if I did hop around a bit).

The Wallflowers Series is so much fun and really brings all the different tropes to the game.

If you’re new to historical romances and want some solid ones I’d recommend these. Or if you’re wanting to start down the Kleypas backlist (good luck) I think I recommend starting here? Or maybe with the Bow Street Runner series—I’m still reading the first one.

But definitely read Again The Magic before It Happened One Autumn. Tbh I’d read it as the prequel to this series.

My quick rundowns for the books:

✨Again The Magic: second chance romance with all the pining and the best secondary story ever.

🥾Secrets Of A Summer Night: class differences, PINING, best 20% of a book. Simon Hunt is my man.

🍁It Happened One Autumn: enemies(?) to lovers, slight love triangle, all the clashing!!!

❄️Devil in Winter: y’all this book. I just cannot. She convinces him to elope in the first chapter. And an excellent sick scene and ahhhh character arc!!

💐Scandal in Spring: pining love interests forever please. So much pining! And secrets! And a rainstorm👀.

I do really love this series. It is excellent and such a beautiful example of why Kleypas is considered a master of historical romance.

Y’all I was so excited to receive this book after finishing the first book. It’s just as fun, outlandish, and cute as the first book. (Yes, this is my suggestion to read Not Your Average Hot Guy before this book.)

This book picks up a little after the end of the first book, but we go on a different adventure with Callie and Luke. If you’re looking for an intense, serious read with fully biblical strictness, this is not your book; however, if you’re looking for ridiculously fun book this is your book!

I really appreciated how Bond continued to build on Callie and Luke's characters. I feel like they both got more fleshed out in this book--which I loved.

Also Bond continued to build on and up the secondary characters. TBH I ended up wanting more of a story on Sean. The secondary characters really sold this book for me.

The twists and turns of this book and plot are SO GOOD. I did not see anything coming, personally, because you honestly just don’t know what to expect.

Everything was set up so incredibly well and leads into each other. Plus when really anything is possible you can’t even begin to fathom where the outcome will come from or what elements are needed. Seriously amazing.

Highly recommend this book if you want a more paranormal/fantastical tamer version of Priest😂. I recommend reading Not Your Average Hot Guy first as you will be confused going into this book.

Similar to India Holton's League of Gentlewomen Witches but with a contemporary twist! I cannot understate how bonkers this book is in the best way!!
